More than a Chair

We don’t often do metal repairs, but occasionally, we’ll have someone stop in with a need to reverse engineer a broken window pane or weld a snapped basketball hoop.

Last month, Jack stopped in with a broken lounge chair. He had stumbled across our website online and wondered if we could repair the chair by welding the fractured supports.

Jack interjected as we looked at the chair, as if reading our minds.

“I know it’s not a fancy chair. And, it’s not financially smart to repair this chair. But, cost isn’t an issue.”

The severity of the break and the time it would take to repair the chair felt cost-prohibitive. We knew and Jack knew he could buy a new chair for what it would cost to repair this old chair.

“My wife’s dementia keeps getting worse. She’s had this chair for decades and she loves it. I could go buy a new chair, but I want this chair repaired.”

That was all we needed to hear. We got the chair into our queue and gave it a top-shelf weld to ensure it would last a few more decades. When Jack picked it up, he knew his wife would be thrilled.

“That’s one heck of a weld job,” Jack shared.

At EMJD, our work ranges from fabricating satellite components to backcountry kitchens. And, every once in a while, it includes repairing old lounge chairs.
